JEANIE BARNETT
Clinical Psychologist

MPsych (Clinical), BPsych, DipEd. MAPS

Consultations for Adults, Couples, Adolescents

Jeanie has many years experience in private practice, since 1997. She has also worked in public mental health services and in hospital and community based services for women and adolescents. She works with anxiety, depression, post natal depression, relationships difficulties with couples, eating disorders, grief and loss, recovery from motor vehicle accidents, victims of crimes and work place bullying. She has developed specialised skills in working with survivors of trauma especially in the context of sexual abuse and sexual violence; vicarious trauma related to providing services or other exposure to traumatic situations.

Jeanie's clinical practice is based in cognitive, behavioural therapies and informed by acceptance and commitment theory, schema therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, trance-work and somatic approaches to resolving emotional blocks, along with specific trauma processes techniques such as EMDR and TFT. She uses analytical and expressive therapies such as sand tray therapy, and trauma-informed body-based therapies to encourage the accessing of feelings and for processing of emotions. She is particularly interested in assisting women and young people with trauma related health and well-being problems, including chronic pain or health issues.

Jeanie is a registered supervisor with APHRA and the APS for endorsement in clinical psychology. She is interested in the development of treatment planning, case formulation and understanding the transference and counter-transference present in the therapeutic relationship. She is particularly interested in working with imagery, symbols and dream work, but otherwise works from a broad based and eclectic approach.
